Chemical upcycling of poly(ethylene terephthalate) waste: Moving to a circular model

The circular economy is a path that society, governments, and business must adopt to develop viable sustainable model for plastic production. Following the route guided by United Nations new laws of European Union, such as Green Deal, it will be able put an end great problem this era, inadequate treatment management waste. On plastics production ladder, poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) ranks fifth alongside polyurethanes, but only average 17% total PET waste recycled. Moreover, according latest survey made Zero Waste Europe, most recycling source used in low features applications through downcycling process. There are mainly two ways recycling, can done mechanically or chemically. one hand, mechanical easy employ presents some limitations properties final product decrease from second cycle, whereas chemical offers versatile procedures although requires huge amounts investment money. To address these drawbacks, diverse methods, specially aminolysis glycolysis, were proposed promising way obtain high added-value products. In review, different updated state art works about discussed, presenting forms waste, approach, reason why important focus on obtention high-added value products upcycling
